Gaddafi Castro is an Australian indie pop band and production duo that formed in 2009. The core members are songwriters Darien Vanak on vocals and guitar and Anthony Rogere on vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards and production. They first met in a Melbourne recording studio where the two musicians recognised they each had the musical key to unlock, compliment and fulfill each other’s songwriting and musical ambitions.
Gaddafi Castro's music stems from Darien and Anthony’s historical passion for highly popular music & production styles from all the key eras of days of distant and not so distant past. With these genre defining influences they blend modern dance production to produce their very own original sound and style.
Lovers of melody, harmony and multi layered arrangements, Gaddafi Castro’s cinematic approach to their music spans across many genres including pop, blues, jazz, swing, big band, rock, chill, soul, funk, disco and dance.
Gaddafi Castro’s key influences include The Easybeats, KC & The Sunshine Band, Holland Dozier Holland, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Trevor Horn, and Todd Rundgren amongst many others. They have been compared to The Pet Shop Boys, The Avalanches, Roxette, The Cars and the new wave of indie disco pop.
